Hike around 4 miles each night in bear country, ensuring safety of volunteers, visitors, and owls. Public Outreach: Organize weekly volunteers and conduct trainings on data scribing, as well as owl handling, extracting, and processing.Coordinate weekly public visitor nights of ~30 people, engaging them with my research by sharing the banding process, as well as meaningful conversations around why this work matters.

    Nest search for breeding Snowy Owls on the Arctic tundra of the North Slope. Endure cold temperatures and high winds for extended periods of time, hiking around 8 miles on rugged and uneven terrain daily. Run 3 transects of lemming traps to assess population 3 times throughout the season. Record low numbers explain the resulting lack of snowy owl nests, allowing us to kickstart a project on male flushing distances from roosting mounds, and observations of hunting behaviors. Repair and maintain equipment used for field work in rough conditions - such as ATVs, snap traps, warm clothing, etc.
