Laurent Maire obtained his law degree at the University of Lausanne in 1993 and a post graduate diploma in European Law in 1994. After having worked as assistant to Professor Roland Bieber from 1994 to 1995 at the University of Lausanne and in parallel taking courses to obtain post graduate certificate of the Higher School of Commerce, he worked as a law clerk in various court instances of the state of Vaud until 1996, when he started his apprenticeship in the law firm of Pierre Jomini, Paolo Gallone and Jean-Arnaud de Mestral in Lausanne. He successfully passed the bar exam in 1998 and then worked as foreign associate in the law firm Eaton & Van Winkle in New York. When he came back to Switzerland, he worked as an associate in the law firm of the former President of the Bar Association Philippe Richard in Lausanne. In 2002 he founded his own law firm, MCE Avocats, and entered into partnership first with Fiorenzo Cotti, and with Antoine Eigenmann. The firm has currently offices in Lausanne, Locarno, Martigny, Fribourg and Zurich as well as more than 60 employees. Laurent Maire is the author of several articles dealing with fundamental rights and citizenship in the European Union; during several years he taught Business law at the Business School of Lausanne. Laurent Maire’s principal activity lies within commercial law practice as well as within work with private clientele. Laurent Maire is member of the board of directors of several companies in Switzerland. He is also active in Music Foundations and associations.
