The app makes it easy to keep a personal diary—and add pages anonymously to group journals. It’s a place to share your thoughts, fears, and successes in a judgment-free zone. While you can adorn your journal pages with stickers, the app never requests access to your photos." – AppleInvested in by Techstars, countless angels, Amazon, Bumble, Serena William’s fund, and other VCs, I started Blue Fever to help young people see and feel good about themselves. The original pitch, that got us into the startup accelerator Techstars, was a studio that curated and made the best video, movies and TV for young women. We found our stride delivering video content based on mood via text message. Our text message bot, Blue, was designed based on the personalities of over 20 young women who volunteered their time to support our users. Together, we established a conversation formula Blue used that helped users express themselves and get validation and relevant content from Blue. We grew that to nearly half a million text message subscribers. During the pandemic we realized we needed to pivot to a more financially sustainable platform (an app) and give our users what they desired most: validation from each other. After months of R&D, and while my team still ran our texting product to make sure users were being helped, our third design hit the mark:An anonymous diary/journaling app designed to help Gen Z express themselves creatively and in turn, support each other’s emotions. It’s Emotional Media, not social media.
