Summer Faculty AppointmentMontana State University-Bozeman May 2024 - PresentBozeman, Montana, United StatesI have a Summer Faculty Appointment with Native American Studies. The purpose of this Research Collaborative Grant Program includes forming a Montana State University faculty team that works together to translate existing archival research from transdisciplinary perspectives for a public audience for a DocuSeries in development. The DocuSeries focuses on retelling 5th generation Montana settler stories with in the context of Native American connections to place, histories, policies, and cultures. The place-based episodes include eight regional places with national significance in addition to two regional places with state significance, which all have parallel Native American significance. The subjects of the media project homesteaded in Glacier National Park (GNP) in places now named after them (Rogers Lake, Peak, and Meadow) that previously had Kootenai place names such as Trader Lake and Peak, as well as the nearby “The Place Where They Danced” at the foot of Lake McDonald. The project funded archival research began in 2020. The content was piloted in a 2023 workshop and a national webinar in 2024. The project goals include engaging faculty as consultants and experts in their fields resulting in: (a) data visualization (such as planetarium depictions of the stars and planets on specific places and days in a family journal); (b) developing a transdisciplinary theoretical framework; (c) scientific communication regarding grasshoppers within the Missouri River ecosystem, fish in Avalanche Basin of GNP, and sheep grazing and geological formations in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming; as well as (d) Crow cultural consultation regarding sacred places in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. The activities include site visits to filming sites, consultation on Indigenous place names, updating existing stories for accurate scientific communication, cultural consultation on existing archival research, initial filming, and initial editing for a museum planetarium episode. -

EvaluatorCampus Compact Mar 2024 - PresentI am conducting a collaborative program evaluation of year one of the Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC). The program builds on the Maine Energy AmeriCorps Program successes. CCAC expanded the program to the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest. The AmeriCorps service program is a green career development pathway with direct impacts including energy conservation via insulating window inserts in colder climates, home energy audits and energy efficiency education, as well as direct service projects such as tree planting and removing invasive species. -
