Laurie Baumer has been a leader in improving communities through nonprofit development for 27 years, currently as Executive Vice President of the Capital Region Community Foundation. Here she has transformed grantmaking programs and launched a new placemaking initiative to help create a vibrant urban core for the region. Formerly she was President & CEO of Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children and teens. She transformed Ele’s Place from a quiet, grassroots nonprofit in the basement of a church to a growing statewide organization with four branches in Lansing, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Flint, Michigan.
