In July 1982, between her junior and senior years of college, Laurie qualified for the Tour by finishing fifth at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 1983 LPGA season. She stayed dedicated to her education and traveled to the University of Florida during off weeks to graduate in 1983. She went on to win the Boston Five Classic in 1984 and the LPGA Corning Classic in 1986. Respectively she finished in the top 16 on the money list in 1984, 1986 and 1987. Her best finishes in the LPGA majors included a seventh place in the 1984 Nabisco Dinah Shore, a tie for second in the 1987 LPGA Championship, and a tie for fourth in the 1995 du Maurier Classic.
