Over the past twenty years, Ms. Werner has focused her career on seeking sustainable solutions to issues related to global poverty and health. She has experience in a variety of areas of international development, including holistic community development, global health, land ownership, agriculture, microfinance, and gender issues. For eight years she served in the leadership of Agros International, as Director of Program and a member of the Executive Leadership Team. She led a multi-faceted program across multiple countries, managing the program implementation and operations in five country offices in Central America and Mexico. Laurie currently works at PATH (a global health organization), initially as a member of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration (DoVC) Secretariat where she coordinated various working groups of experts and external consultation events to support the creation of the Global Vaccine Action Plan for the next decade. She was then the Global Director (formerly Deputy Director) for the Better Immunization Data (BID) Initiative at PATH, which focused on improving immunization data collection, quality, and use for better decision-making in African countries’ immunization programs. She then joined PATH’s Center of Digital and Data Excellence, first as Director of Program and now as Co-Lead, where she leads the implementation of the updated CoDE strategy, including DEI planning and implementation, programmatic budgeting and work planning, and new business development, as well as continuing to lead a project portfolio of grants focused on increasing data use in health service delivery. Laurie is bilingual in Spanish and English, has a B.A. in Sociology from Whitworth University, and M.P.A. from the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington. Project Coordinator, Decade Of Vaccines SecretariatPath May 2011 - May 2013Greater Seattle AreaLaurie served as a member of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration (DoVC) Secretariat that has been developing a Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) for the decade of 2011-2020. The work has been done through the collaboration of more than 1,100 individuals, representing 142 countries and 297 organizations. Laurie has facilitated processes with two working groups of high-level, global experts (approximately 60 individuals) around topics of vaccine access (pricing, financing and supply) and public and political support to provide inputs into the creation of the GVAP. She has also led on five key consultation events in India, Washington D.C. and New York City, as well as multiple teleconferences, to gather feedback and inputs from key stakeholders. She partners closely on the civil society and donor outreach strategy, to ensure buy-in and support for the process, and has managed the relationship with communications consultants in relation to content development and website management and produced content such as blogs and website text. In this role Laurie has used her project management skills along with her cross-cultural communication and partnership facilitation strengths to help coordinate a global planning process in the global health arena (including working closely with partners at WHO, UNICEF, Gates Foundation, GAVI Alliance, Johns Hopkins University, University of Toronto and others). -
Director Of International ProgramAgros International Jan 2006 - May 2011Greater Seattle AreaIn this position Laurie was responsible for overall program implementation in the five countries where Agros works. Agros does holistic rural community development work in Central America and Mexico, focused primarily on land ownership for poor communities, and helping to create sustainable agricultural communities. Her key activities included the entire program budgeting process, managing the budget throughout the year (developing 7 separate budgets, tracking actual expenses, and projecting future multi-year spending), monitoring and evaluating Agros' program model implementation, and participating on Agros' Leadership team.
