Profile bio

About Christian Lavados, Ph.D.

I am currently an associate medical writer at CMC Connect, an agency within IPG Health. I earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. I have over 12 years of combined R&D experience from academia and industry, with papers in several fields. I understand the importance of clear communication and have ensured throughout my career that scientific and medical information is communicated in a way that everyone can understand. At Einstein, my doctoral work focused on two projects. In my thesis project, I studied the role that nutrient deprivation-driven phosphorylation of the mitochondrial protein SLIRP plays in the regulation of mitophagy (mitochondrial autophagy). I approached this study at the in vitro and in vivo level, with both imaging-based (confocal microscopy, TEM) and biochemical-based (western blot, RT-qPCR) approaches. My secondary project involved the metabolic analysis of a timed feeding intervention in rodents. It is known that time-restricted feeding confers metabolic benefits, and our work expands on this knowledge.Prior to my graduate work, I worked as an engineer in both upstream and downstream process development; independently, I have demonstrated the ability to develop scalable biomolecule purification processes (AbbVie Biotherapeutics, Clara Foods/EVERY), while in a group setting, teams I've worked with have increased protein titers by more than 7x in a single year (EVERY). In addition, I have developed multiple chromatography-based protocols for separating a wide array of species, from proteins and enzymes for food applications (EVERY), to monoclonal antibodies for pharmaceutical applications (AbbVie), and bio-active protein complexes for research publications (Einstein, Willis Group).Outside the lab, I have been a life-long martial artist. I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, and have won State- and National-level medals in Judo.

Listed skills include Akta Purifiers, Affinity Chromatography, Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography, Ion Exchange Chromatography, and 25 others.
