My passion for computers started when I was young. My digital journey started at five years old when my dad brought home a brand-new CRT monitor and Compaq tower. As a young boy I was fascinated by it, and I remember countless evenings spent gaming or watching my two brothers play. However, it was only a few short years before I felt I had exhausted all the accessible content these games had to offer. This pushed me towards the games’ more involved features for designing your own maps, cosmetics, and characters, and it awakened the creative in me. Unfortunately, even in the best of cases, in-game creation tools left a lot to be desired.I needed even more control over my creations; I turned to online forums where I learned to install mods, switch textures, and even host servers for games. When I got to high school, it wasn’t a surprise that I desperately wanted to be a part of the software team for the school’s robotics program. I ambitiously taught myself C++, and, to my surprise, I joined the team as the lead software engineer. I finally had the freedom to create in the ways I had always wanted to. Through thousands of lines of code (and regrettably not enough comments), I played a major part in my team’s journey to the world championship. Although my team didn’t win overall, I felt I had reason to celebrate because I had at last found the perfect creative outlet.I’m now a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying computer science and data science. I have extensive experience in several programming languages and systems including Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, R, Linux, web development, and SSH. I experiment in topics that interest me such as web scraping and computer graphics, and I have a GitHub where I publish completed or interesting projects.I am excited to bring my passion to the work force, and I look forward to solving problems through code.
