I have been treading two parallel paths in my academic training and professional career, weaving between Zoology and IT. After my BSc (Hons.) in Zoology, I went on to obtain my MSc in Information Systems and work in IT business consultancy for 10+ years, working on large implementation projects for various enterprise software in a functional capacity (Business Analysis, client support and training and project management). I then got a postgraduate specialisation in Dog Behaviour and transitioned back into Zoology as a business owner and dog behaviour specialist. I have been running a successful pet business (director of a dog training school, behaviour therapist and contract lecturer for recognized certification institutes) since 2009. Teaching and training others is at the heart of all my work, and where I get the most energy out of: be it helping end users come to grips with a system change or helping a group of prospective dog trainers understand a tough point of theory. As a lecturer, mentor, internship supervisor, thesis supervisor and group instructor, I get a kick out of making theoretical concepts come to live for my students by means of visualisations and interactive teaching. Zoology has had a profound impact on how I review and understand information: it has taught me critical thinking. Evidence-based has very much become a way of life for me: when looking at the facts, go beyond your own biases and make a concerted effort to stay objective.
