Pro Bike Service C.I.C. was built to accelerate the transition to an inclusive, empowered,resilient and regenerative economy, specifically within the domain of Active Mobility. We designed and built a solar powered bicycle training and servicing enterprise which can be deployed on meanwhile sites and underutilised real estate to encourage, support and champion a growing number of safe cyclists. We employ open source technologies, run our key services via a gift economy and are working towards a zero waste model of operation. Operating within a gift economy removes inability to pay for services as a barrier to entry, serving the entire community by need rather than means. Users of both the maintenance and training services, along with friends, patrons and partners, are given the opportunity to ‘pay’ for the continuation and expansion of services offered by gifting in a variety of ways. The gift economy system centres around trust, goodwill and community cohesion and by not setting fixed prices then discounting, challenges labels that society or an individual may have about themselves, striving for equality and integration. It also allows beneficiaries to gift and share their individual talents and resources as well as, or in exchange of, any financial contributions. It is expected that gifting will continue to open up access to services and goods, commonly prohibited to certain beneficiaries, whilst simultaneously providing services and goods typically inaccessible to an organisation dependent upon voluntary donations.
