In 2014 I suffered a severe stoke, it was a life-changing event that left me with significant physical and emotional challenges. However, it also gave me a newfound appreciation for life and a sense of purpose.I realized that there was a lack of support and resources available for stroke survivors like myself, and I wanted to change that. I wanted to create a community where people could come together, share their experiences, and find support.A founding member of Stroke Awareness Oregon https://strokeawarenessoregon.org. We are committed and work alongside our local and state hospitals, community leaders, and businesses to further provide stroke education, support and resources. My radio show, "Stroke Sisters," is an extension of that mission. I wanted to provide a platform where people could share their stories, ask questions, and connect with others who understand what I was going through. It's been an incredible journey so far, and I've had the privilege of speaking with many amazing guests who have shared their inspiring stories. Listen now strokewarriorradio.com!Through my work, I hope to raise awareness about stroke and its impact on individuals and families. I also hope to provide resources and support to those who are navigating the recovery process. It's not always easy, but I believe that with the right support and mindset, anyone can overcome the challenges they face.As for the lessons I've learned during my own stroke recovery journey, there are many! One of the most important lessons is the importance of self-care. Taking care of my physical and emotional well-being has been crucial to my recovery.Another lesson is the power of connection. Surrounding myself with supportive people who understand what I'm going through has made all the difference. It's essential to build a network of people who can offer encouragement, advice, and emotional support.Lastly, I've learned that recovery is possible, but it's not always easy or linear. There will be setbacks and challenges along the way, but it's how we respond to them that matters. With patience, persistence, and resilience, anyone can overcome the obstacles they face.To those who are just starting their own recovery journeys, I would say: don't give up! Recovery is possible, and it's worth fighting for. Don't be afraid to ask for help or seek support from others who have gone through similar experiences. And most importantly, take care of yourself – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
