I have recently retired. A blessing. What I have learned over the last many years in Risk Management: Managing risk involves the continuous assessment of corporate and community level processes. It involves an understanding of how oversight is interpreted. Start with detailed corporate risk evaluations and develop a company wide review structure. This includes company specific safety related responsibilities that community leadership is expected to review, develop and document. Develop programs for loss management and control, physical plant safety, and functional safety audits. These are the tools from which a 'Culture of Safety' emerges. Create various education series (Risk Management, Safety, Leadership) within The Office of Risk Management which will become the building blocks for success in managing every aspect of risk. Continued education is a catalyst for success. When you show that you genuinely care for each team member that the company has hired, injured or not, you get a return on that effort with a more engaged team member. There needs to be loss prevention initiatives, corporate compliance review, crisis management programs, transportation fleet and driver management systems, root cause analysis utilization, accident/incident investigation requirements and tools, and indemnity waivers for various risk activities. Your efforts in the management of risk will reap benefits of a safe environment in which your residents and team members
