Modular manufacturers and advocates would have us reverse this wisdom when they try to force function to fit into inflexible form ignoring that you cannot “fit the square peg into the round hole.” Manufacturers should not design with in-house or dedicated Architects but should respond to what market savvy Developers and Independent Architects know instinctively how to do best. Independent Architects should provide the template or design concept for manufacturers to respond to for final solutions that are truly functional and not forced. The one-stop shop with no market analysis leads to a copy-cat mentality that is dumbing down our built environment!We do not describe our buildings as “modular” but as prefabricated with “wet” modules only and all in compliance with independent market oriented developers and their architects designs and styles. Standardization, minimal logistical problems and easy installation of prefabricated components are key objectives.
