Responsible for all activities undertaken by Morrison Water Services (www.morrisonws.com) across England and Wales.

Responsible for Water contracts in the South and for the growth across the UK of the Wastewater business within the Utility Division covering contracts undertaken by Morrison Utility Services and Industrial Water Jetting Systems (www.iwjs.co.uk).

Responsible for work undertaken by Morrison Utility Services for key client Thames Water. Supporting the growth of MUS in the South East through involvement in identifying and bidding for new opportunities, in particular water and sewerage. Operational representative for water and sewerage related acquisition activity.

Leading the Agility Alliance (J Murphy & Morrison Utility Services) through the next phase of development of the Thames Water Infrastructure Alliance. Responsible for the delivery of all Agility workstreams including clean water repairs & maintenance, clean & waste water connections, major projects, trunk mains leakage, lead pipe replacement & small capital works.

Leading the execution of the Thames Water Infrastructure Alliance operational strategies to achieve the targets specified in the Outcome Delivery Incentives. Working in a complex stakeholder alliancing environment, responsible for driving a consistent approach to delivery across the Alliance and embedding a collaborative but results driven approach to support Thames Water in delivering its objectives.

Responsible for all elements of performance of the Southern Water AMP6 React & Maintain Operational Partner contract for sewerage repairs and maintenance, having successfully managed the bid process for this new venture. The contract will have a value of in excess of £160m for the five year AMP6 period and will run from April 2015 until March 2020 with the possibility of a five year extension.Services are provided across the entire Southern Water region; Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and include responsibility for all issues on the sewerage network, following a customer's first phone call to Southern Water, managing the customer journey through to a successful conclusion. Leading a team of over three hundred, my team and I focussed on providing exceptional customer service, frontier safety performance and excellent value for money through a collaborative working relationship.

Focusing on the commercial performance of the business, creating new business development opportunities but also taking operational responsibility for some of the Company’s key term contract agreements.

Reporting to the Chairman and majority shareholder, responsible for setting the strategy for the Company, producing detailed business plans, establishing vision, mission statement and values and meeting business objectives. Involved in Group re-construction, re-structured Board of Directors for Construction company, instigated cost saving initiatives, secured new clients and new contracts, improved business development function and service delivery. Recruited new directors and senior managers. Led the growth of the business from £18.6m and established the Company as a leading utility contractor in the South East. Established joint ventures with other contracting organisations to target specific opportunities in the Utility market. Detailed involvement in setting targets, establishing robust commercial procedures including monthly cost value reporting and cost to complete forecasting, staff appraisals, job descriptions, introducing standardised benefits including bonus system, established internal specialist capability in traffic management, reinstatement and small electrical works.

Responsible for various business improvement and development initiatives to professionalise the business and facilitate profitable growth.

Commercial Manager of Southern Area (originally £70m turnover, increasing to £130m) responsible to the Area Director for commercial management of area including managing a team of bought ledger and sales invoicing clerks and quantity surveyors. Functional responsibility for 25 no quantity surveying and commercial staff.

Initially employed as Senior Area Quantity Surveyor. Promoted in July 1998 to Managing Surveyor and promoted to Assistant Commercial Manager in July 1999. Responsible for commercial management of Southern Area (turnover £30m) including managing a team of eight (cost clerk, buyers and quantity surveyors) together with assisting the Commercial Manager in the general day to day running of the commercial function. Particular involvement in agreement, negotiation and finalisation of contract terms and conditions including collateral documents and progression and agreement of problematic final accounts. Also, statistical analysis of results, production of Company Commercial Handbook, management and progression of contractual and insurance claims, cash and profit forecasting. General contract management with operating staff and commercial management of major/problematic contracts. Major contracts included a £21m piling and ground engineering sub-contract in Ashford which grew through additional works, variations and claims to £30m and an extremely complex £8m piling and diaphragm walling contract at Harrods.
