Lawrence (Larry) Weill is an academic leader and an author and artist from western Kentucky. He has served as a college academic dean, a vice-president and a president, leading colleges to culture change and growth. He is a member of The Registry of College and University Presidents, an organization that provides interim leaders throughout academia.Larry has worked in higher education as a professor of philosophy and ethics for some twenty-five years, then as an academic dean. Dr. Weill assumed his duties as the second president of Gordon State College on April 1, 2002 and led the college as it grew into a four-year institution. He holds degrees in mathematics, humanities, and higher education. Dr. Weill has published numerous academic papers on academic leadership, the arts, student advisement and peer tutoring. He retired from Gordon State in 2012. Since then he has also served as interim Vice-president for Academic and Student Affairs at SUNY-Sullivan in New York and as Executive Director (Interim) of The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. As a writer, Larry has eight books in print and has a contract for two more. He writes novels, short fiction, non-fiction articles and books, creative non-fiction, and poetry. His work has appeared in a wide range of local, regional, and national journals. He also is a visual artist working in graphite, oils, metal and wood.Dr. Weill lives in the woods in Kentucky overlooking a beaver pond next to a wildlife preserve. He is also an avid outdoorsman and gardener.
