The role includes deploying out on exercise leading Two Crew men, providing communications including setting up masts, establishing links in a network and monitoring whilst conducting regular general maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle.• In February I deployed on Exercise to Jordan for 9 weeks to build a Head Quarters and provide communications for 30 plus high ranking Military officers. I was also there to work on a service desk advising and helping with any problems with software and hardware. I deployed with two Crew Men, who I lead and managed in day to day duties providing direction and support.• In October I deployed on Exercise with an inexperienced commander to guide, support and show how to complete a full set up of communications within the vehicle. I deployed on several communications exercises as part of a three man crew following orders from the vehicle commander.• As well as communications exercises I also deployed on military skills exercises. This usually included sleeping rough in the cover of the forests under very stressful conditions being in the cold and anticipating attack drills.• I was a large influence when the squadron changed roles and equipment. I had already completed the course for the new equipment, so I was a great help to team with training the rest of the Squadron as well as improving my knowledge.• Fire extinguisher maintainer- I was put on this course so I could help the Senior Fire officer in the maintenance of fire extinguisher in the workplace and also in our accommodation. • I spent my time in Blandford training to become a Communication Systems Operator and earn my Advanced Signaller Qualification. I was taught basic communication skills such as Voice Procedure, Touch Typing, how to operate High and Very High Frequency Radios and how to set up Masts and Antennas.

This was where I was taught my basics of becoming a Soldier. Determination and perseverance got me through the training. It has helped develop my personality due to the constant reminders of the 7 steps you need to follow to become a soldier- Courage, Discipline, Respect for others, Integrity, Loyalty, Selfless commitment.

I started washing pots, and preparing vegetables for service. After a couple of months I was given shifts working front of house face to face with the customer providing a friendly service. I took a great interest in cooking and preparing food so I started working in the kitchen on the cooking line. Shortly after I was promoted to second chef, working very closely with the head chef and being left in charge of running the kitchen when he was absent.
