About Layci Nelson

I used to be a TERRIBLE boss. So. Bad. But let's fast forward a bit first. For over 9 years, I have been empowering leaders through the Transcend Leadership Collective (formerly known as Nelson Management Strategies) with methods to gain self-awareness and the skills it takes to become a leader worthy of being followed. I excel at bringing theory to life in practical, ways that are immediately actionable. I have trained thousands of leaders including in The United States Army as well as in agriculture, logistics and manufacturing. I know how to make leadership strategies valuable and practical in the demands unique to these action-packed industries that often feel most available leadership training modules have been created for traditional, Corporate America, desk jobs and aren't relevant to their day to day realities. Me and my team agree and have developed a methodology that resonates for these leaders. We collaborated in the development of curriculum used for the Washington State Agricultural Leadership Program, a project coordinated and funded by WSU, WSDA and The Washington State Tree Fruit Association. We developed Communication for Leaders, a curriculum for Heritage University at Work.We have coached leaders and designed workshops for Tree Top, Washington Fruit, HLA Civil Engineering,Yakima Chief Hops, Roy Farms, Gilbert Orchards, Yakima Valley Hops (a subsidiary of HAAS), Davis-Standard, PTI Transportation, Comprehensive Mental Health, Lazarus Brewing, Yakima Valley Volunteer Attorney Services, Building Industry Association of Washington and more. For the 15 years prior to launching my business, I led multiple, successful teams and initiatives in both the private and public sectors.However, solid leadership is a learned skill. My early years of managing a team were at best, a train wreck. It took a pivotal moment of clarity to realize I was the problem. This epiphany launched my life-long pursuit and study of communication and leadership. With a BA in Social Work and minors in Psychology and Sociology, I have leveraged my degrees and experience to become an expert in understanding people in environments and how to coach leaders to make sustainable behavior change in themselves. I am also a first-generation college graduate, a wife, a mom of 5, (2 boys, 2 dogs and 1 cat), a coffee snob, an unapologetic Swiftie, a prolific shower singer and a top-rated speaker and facilitator. My team offers Strategic Planning facilitation and implementation support, 1:1 Coaching, in-person or virtual Workshop Design and Facilitation.
