My focus has so far been on Purified Recycled Water feasibility study across Sydney, Recycled Water Carting and delivering a variety of projects at Wastewater Treatment Plants in Sydney Water’s South region.

While I was doing my Ph.D. in Newcastle, I started a part time job in Hunter Water as a technical officer to put my knowledge into practice and serve the new community I was evolving in. I was nominated for a ‘Splash Award,’ for my contribution to the business, by my team manager, and whole team cohort. During my time in Hunter Water, I also completed the WaterAid’s global challenge, Winnovators, which won HWC two regional awards in Asia pacific. This position involved project management on two exciting projects consisting of; the review of Hunter Water’s Tanker Management System and the investigation of the use of network coupons within both the recycled and potable water network.

In 2016, I was awarded a scholarship by the University of Newcastle, Australia, to peruse my higher degree research studies in chemical engineering at the Newcastle Institute for Energy & Resource. My PhD journey empowered me with technical skills I needed to make an impact on science and technology by developing a series of novel porous silica for the first time. Having tuneable pore size and structure, the functionalised particles have the potential to capture CO2 and remove heavy metals.

HunterWiSE is an initiative that will establish mentorship avenues for women in STEM throughout the Hunter region; promoting positive collaboration and sharing of experiences. The HunterWiSE program features two key interlinked actions aimed at increasing the number of girls and women participating in STEM. The one I am involved with is a targeted school intervention, to increase interest in STEM careers among young women to increase the number of females entering, and simultaneously encourage retention of women already in, the STEM pipeline. The HunterWISE initiative is generously supported by Hunter Water, The University of Newcastle and Muswellbrook Shire Council.Responsibilities:• Attending weekly Collaborate sessions with students• Monitoring student work in the online collaborative spaces• Visiting the students at school and attending on-campus visits to ensure their progress• Weekly progress meeting with HunterWiSE Project OfficerAchievements:• Published a flier about Climate Change, the causes and effects and our responsibilities• Launched a campaign regarding climate change to increase people’s awareness of what they can do in this regard• Made an impressive video asking all individuals to take daily steps towards controlling the climate change• Enhanced my communicational skills in the Australian community

I worked strategically with my fellow partners to identify opportunities to grow business through a relentless focus on our region’s needs. Therefore, the core business of my company, ARAD, was Feasibility Study, Engineering and Procurement for a mini-refinery with a capacity of 7 to 10 thousand barrels per day to address one of the greatest challenges of the community I was living in and leave an honourable legacy.

My main project was manufacturing a Pilot Plant to Make Isotherm Condition in Catalytic Converters of Sulfuric Acid Plants by Heat Pipe.My academic training and two years of experience working as a research assistant prepared me to be an effective Deputy CEO as well as my engineering responsibilities during my work experience in the engineering field, which led to the successful establishment of my own company from September 2015.

My main project was Synthesis and characterization of PLGA-PEG-PLGA triblock copolymers and investigation of its application for insulin delivery. This project was supported by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trades (MIMT) with a budget of 103,990 USD. The whole project had four different phase including theoretical study phase, product synthesising, in vitro and in vivo release study, which is crucial before human trials. I was responsible for the first three mentioned aspects. 2.2.3 To modify the design of sustained drug delivery formulation in this project, my tasks included investigating the effect of PEG molecular weight, feed molar ratio and reaction time on gelation behaviour of PLGA-PEG-PLGA tri-block copolymers. I also evaluated this formulation as a sustained insulin release system. Achieving an injectable and biodegradable insulin formulation while maintaining satisfactory release profiles for about 15 days was another challenge of this study, which I successfully overcame.

Before launching ARAD, I was leading a renewable energy development program. The focal point of this program was producing gas in a semi-industrial novel anaerobic plug reactor, utilising organic waste. This novel approach was later employed as a heating system, for green space.

During my experiences as the “Secretary of the Iranian Association of Chemical Engineers, Student Branch” I developed the ability to communicate with others in an effective way. I am also capable of working either individually or in a team. I especially enjoy teamwork because I have the ability to lead the team when necessary and cooperate with other members of the team as well. Here are my two main responsibilities in this position:• Editor of the journal of the Student Branch of Iranian Association of Chemical Engineers (JOSTAR)• A member of the organizing committee for several conferences, scientific exhibitions, chemical engineering workshops and software.
