Along with wife Brenda Hetman-Craig, they own and manage the18-acre vineyard, and boutique winery, located near the Strait of Georgia, in the Comox Valley. This Vancouver Island winery, should be on your tour. They produce nine BC wines, many of which are award winners. The 40 Knots label boasts Vancouver Island grown grapes to create distinctive tastes, including a French-method sparkling, some white blends, and a fabulous Pinot Noir. With imported Okanagan grapes Okanagan, they created their Stall Speed label to offer a Meritage blend, and a unique Merlot ice wine.Layne is the hands-on, in-the-field guy, who understands the combination of weather, soil, and attention that grapes need to mature, while Brenda focuses on marketing and business operations. He works with a team to grow and import grapes, produce the wine, and is the first one to hop on a piece of machinery to get a job done. Being near the Comox airport and Air Force base, Layne is in his element. An accomplished private fixed-wing pilot, he owns a retired military aircraft.Heavily involved in the community, Brenda and Layne contribute to local charities, and support local businesses. They are members of the Chamber of Commerce, Wine Island Vintners Association, and BC Grape Growers.Layne invites you to tour their winery, cellar, and vineyard, and learn how the whole wine-making process works.
