• An opportunity arose for a new venture of a different challenge. It involved working with the various structures within new residential development. These included set up and negotiate with engineering infrastructure contractors, dealing with municipal authorities, architects, building contractors, construction suppliers, potential homeowners and banks. Responsible from first ground broken to hand over of keys to new home owner. The venture proofed to be too expensive to continue in the lead up to the global financial crisis.

• Acted as manager of the instrument workshop on the marine vessel Debmar Atlantic. • Performed duties as member of the executive management team on the vessel• Duties included planning, scheduling, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and calibration of all process related instrumentation anywhere on the vessel.• Maintained and supervised the performance and resource usage of the DCS and PLC control systems.• Ensured the accuracy and efficiency of the x-ray machines.• Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the quality and efficiency of the satellite communication systems.• Active member of the marine vessel’s safety team, frequently conducting training and exercises associated with the various risks in all environments as the vessel represented a mine, a processing plant, and a recovery within the confined spaces of a ship at sea.

• Member of the workshop team whose responsibilities included fault finding, repairs, installation and calibration of process instruments such as flow, level, pressure, density, weight and x-rays in all sectors of the plant.• Commissioned the instrumentation, the PLC and the SCADA in the final recovery plant.• Key to the planning and implementation for the upgrade of old plant technology with modern PLC control and SCADA without interruption to production targets. All of this was achieved in-house.• Technical specialist on the sorting x-ray machines, key to the development and implementation of key efficiency upgrades to these machines.• Principal concept designer of the automated tap-off system – at the time considered not possible. This project was done while normal workshop duties were expected and the project was completed on time and within budget. • During the economic downturn of 1992, I had the responsibility of mothballing the instrumentation of certain plants within the region with extremely limited resources. I then re-instated, commissioned and ensured that proper operational parameters were achieved 18 months later when the market recovered.• Undertook a project to develop a novel security system to curb diamond theft within the diamond mining and processing industries. This included many iterations of designing, testing and implementation of new technologies covertly in various areas of the mining and processing facilities. Varying results were achieved, but these paved the way for diamond security on mines into the future.
