My two greatest passions are people and the environment. As a teenager, I discovered my love of people through service trips to Cambodia, Peru, and Nepal. Each place enriched my cultural outlook and created a burning desire within me to serve the people of my community. My passion for the environment has welded itself into my everyday life, with my favorite pastimes being skiing, hiking, trail running, and backpacking. I have combined my two passions by choosing the Environmental Studies major at the University of Washington. I want to become an environmental lawyer and advocate for people’s health in an environment that is eroding because of a lack of climate justice.As the Vice President of Service Learning of the Sigma Phi Epsilon WA Beta chapter, I facilitate member relationships with service and organize fundraising events that benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of King County. So far, we have raised over $600 to support the Boys and Girls Club and we look forward to our biggest events coming in the Spring. Through my communication with local service sites and event planning, over 90% of the members at Sigma Phi Epsilon have completed at least 5 hours of local service during each quarter of the school year.
