In my role as a Visual Art teacher I taught students Art History, Aesthetics, and classical techniques in Visual Art 1-5, Sculpture 1-2, and Advanced Placement Studio Art 2D Design and Drawing. What my students and I were most passionate about, however, was Design Thinking. We focused on challenges and identified innovative solutions in a space where failure was an expected part of the learning process. From 8 ft. paper airplanes to Rube Goldberg machines that shot fire (the fire component was deemed too difficult to build - thank goodness) all ideas were valued.I was the Department Head from 2008-2011. In 2012 I developed a new Art 1 curriculum implementing "Creating Artistic Vision in Students" Technology Grant that aimed to integrate the arts, technology, cultural awareness and community involvement.

I was responsible for developing Implementation Guides and documents aligned to the new Essential Standards and also attending "Race To the Top" trainings. I created and implemented Professional Development for arts education teachers in the county for Continuing Education Credit.

My responsibilities included research, design and implementation of educational programming for preschool - twelfth grade students. This included the development and design of informational materials aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. I also managed the volunteer and internship program. In addition I received the North Carolina Museum Council 2004 Publications Award for North Carolina Clay Curriculum Guide.

My responsibilities included developing age appropriate programming for the educational gallery. I was the manager of daily operations and visitor services. This included being a tour facilitator for groups, individuals and those with special needs.
