Long received his J.D. from South Texas College of Law where he was a member of several professional organizations. Long began his career working as a biology and chemistry researcher at the University of Kentucky, and eventually received his M.S. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University. He continued to work as a molecular biologist / chemist for Texas A&M University before moving on to a legal career.Long worked as a Judicial Legal Assistant to the Honorable Judge Kenneth Hoyt of the U.S. Federal Court of the Southern District of Texas, and as a law clerk to the Honorable Reece Rondon of the 234th Texas State District Court. He also clerked with a variety of firms and organizations, including the Harris County Deputies Organization, the Lanier Law Firm, the law firm of Joachim & Garner, the law firm of Hornblower, Manning & Ward, and the Harris County Attorney's Office.Long was part of the in-house corporate legal staff of a large multinational entertainment and multimedia company working on corporate affairs and copyright/trademark law. Long ultimately joined a multinational tax consulting firm specializing in federal and multistate research & development tax credits and cost segregation.
