I am a freelance journalist, writer, photographer, audio producer, and registered Maine sea kayaking guide. I specialize in narrative-driven stories about people and their environment, covering our relationship with the natural world through science, outdoor recreation, food production, and industry. I have experience writing and editing articles and taking and editing photos for local, regional, and national outlets. I also have experience in field recording, audio editing, script writing, sound design, mastering, and podcast production.Before freelancing, I launched OutdoorGearLab's mountain bike review program and worked as a senior managing editor for three years. Prior to that, I served as a restoration ecologist and coordinator for RiversEdge West for six years and as an adventure guide for whitewater rafting and canoeing, horseback riding, dog sledding, caving, and ropes courses for four years. I earned a master's degree in Environmental Science and Land Use Policy from the University of Virginia and a graduate certificate from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at Maine College of Art & Design.
