About Luis Cláudio Mattos
More than 25 years of experience working with Brazilian civil society organizations, and have managing projects that address almost all of the Millennium Development Goals. Working through my own company toward to sustainable development and social projects, I have collaborated with ActionAid Brazil, Diaconia, ASA (semiarid network of NGOs) and other smaller organizations, managing issues such as environment management, water supply, food security and public policies. The target public includes women, indigenous groups, afro descendants, and small farmers. I was the Country Director for the United Nations Association International Service (UNAIS-UK), managing the entire country program, including financial, administrative, bureaucratic and legal exigencies to keep an international office opened in Brazil, including fund-raising, networking, human resources management, budgetary management, institutional representation and reporting. I have worked for the Ministry of Agrarian Development, of Federal Government, in the public sector with support of the Global Environment Facilities (GEF) and the International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD), supporting small farmers families. The scope of work included assistance for rural family farmers, climate changes adaptation, food security and combating desertification. I also worked as Senior Program Manager and Head of Programming for Catholic Relief Services (CRS-US) for seven years, managing areas of sustainable development, income generation, emergency responses, inclusive livelihood rehabilitation and human rights, with support of agencies such as U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), the Norwegian Government, Caritas Norway, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and being the Chief of Party for two U.S. Grants. In 2006 I was awarded one of CRS' two Outstanding Achievement Awards for National Staff in recognition of these significant contributions to that Agency.
