This past summer I interned at a leading engineering company in the power industry. I was tasked with developing a python code and GUI which automated a process that saved countless man hours and eliminated manual error. Experimental data and criteria set using the GUI were used to determine the strength of buckling within fuel rods to be displayed and plotted. In addition, a second project was to develop criteria to measure volume loss of a component from the vibration of secured fuel rods. To accomplish this, I created a SolidWorks model of the component visualizing wear using field data.In the summer of 2019, I interned at a small engineering company that specializes in unique solutions to complex problems. One of the projects was a four degree of freedom manipulator for the power industry. I was tasked with putting the machine together and coming up with solutions to problems encountered while assembling the prototype design. I was able to design and specify an air vortex cooler and properly size a gearmotor for the correct speed and torque. Additionally, I used SolidWorks and 3-D printed prototype parts to help in finalizing the design.I am currently enrolled at Virginia Tech obtaining my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. I will be graduating in May of 2022 after which I plan on pursuing a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering.I have always wanted to become an engineer. Multiple STEM camps, an engineering-based 3D-printed research project during my time at Central Virginia Governor’s School, and a high school internship at a large local engineering company confirmed this desire and allowed me to gain valuable experience in solving engineering challenges as well as becoming adept at using SolidWorks software to model parts. I can also program using Python and MATLAB. I am a motivated and quick learner who has already demonstrated success in engineering classes, the ability to contribute to a team, an exceptional work ethic, and leadership skills. Personal integrity and self-control are an integral part of my life. I believe my current skills allow me to contribute to an engineering team immediately and I would be grateful for the opportunity to do so.
