About Laura Thornton

I have been passionate about the performing arts my entire life. Knowing that I wanted to work in that field, I've parlayed my communications education (Journalism and Public Relations) into a successful career in arts administration. I'm always interested in exploring new opportunities within the field and taking on new challenges. I have run a small social media and marketing consultant company since 2010. I work with small businesses and non-profits to develop intelligent online content and train employees to implement strategy a well as basic functionality skills. I can also provide administrative and marketing services such as digital content creation, website creation/maintenance, strategic planning, communication planning, public relations, management experience, event planning and fundraising support. Working within the arts community I provide a variety of services and work in several areas. Over the last 20 years I've worked in all departments of theatre creation, specializing in directing, stage management, and acting. I've spent the last decade honing my business skills as a producer and administrator. These skills are transferable to small business and non-profit organizations.I founded Whale Song Theatre in 2015 with Sarah Richardson and Ian Gilmore. A professional theatre company working to perform accessible and interesting work, allowing for artists at all stages of their careers an opportunity to perform and create. Part of our mandate is to raise awareness and funds for local organizations. Since our founding, we have won a Best of the Coast Award, multiple Halifax Fringe Festival awards, sold out several productions and have received many positive reviews from audience members and critics alike. In 2020, I founded Anchor Talent Group. A small talent agency representing actors, directors, stunt performers, and other creatives - I believe that stories should be told by authentic voices. I am always interested in connecting to chat about web design and social media opportunities, or about the state of the arts in Nova Scotia.
