• Joined a small team working on a Server Consolidation Project to migrate close to 500 physical servers (NT4, Win2000 and Win2003) in the UK to virtual machines on a VMWare ESX 2.5 server farm hosted in Switzerland.
• Design and implementation of the ESX server environment in the UK (built on IBM x445 servers).
• Process used WinPE, Ghost and VMWare P2V Assistant. Also used Veritas Netbackup and Bare Metal Restore. Environment managed with VMWare Virtual Center 1.x.
• Adhered to strict change control and time windows – Servers were migrated over night and needed to be up and running by 8am the next working day
• Communicated to business and testers, assisted in troubleshooting, updated server inventories, modified DNS and WINS, submitted requests for backups and monitoring once servers were successfully migrated.
• Decommissioned physical servers from racks for secure wiping of disks after successful migration.
