-Learned about cellulosic biomass conversion to ethanol and the lab's current research which is the pretreatment process for biomass called Extractive Ammonia.-Pretreated biomass with liquid ammonia in four reactors to extract lignin and increase the yield of sugars in enzymatic hydrolysis with a lower enzyme loading.-Accurately and consistently achieved lab results via learned processes and procedures.-Recorded temperature and pressure data throughout the reaction to be used to optimize the pretreatment process before moving the reaction to a larger scale.•Publication: “Novel ammonia pretreatment of genetically modified zip poplar woody biomass” Somnath Shinde, Changxing Lyu, Mitchell Gallup, Leonardo Sousa, Venkatesh Balan, John Ralph, Bruce Dale; manuscript to be communicated soon.•Conducted all the research about 20 hrs/week while attending all the course work.
