About Laura Chambers
I am passionate about criminal justice reform, and have years of expertise working within youth justice and restorative justice. I am also interested in criminology, children's rights, Children Looked After, court work, policy, drawing from international policy, academia and research. I have extensive experience of working restoratively and bringing victims and offenders together using restorative approaches. I have recent line management experience managing peer advocates within an outstanding youth justice service. I also have extensive case management knowledge within the youth justice setting. I have previously worked as a trustee for a restorative justice charity, where I gained knowledge and understanding of governance and overall strategic direction of the charity. I also have previously of worked within the children's residential sector and am passionate about addressing the disproportionality that Children Looked After face within the criminal justice system. I have a wide-ranging background of working in court, including both the youth court and the Crown Court, including writing pre-sentence reports for serious offences within the Crown Court.I currently work as a Senior YJS Officer within Lambeth Youth Justice Service, working with a wide variety of young people on out of court and statutory court orders to prevent reoffending and promote positive, sustained change, often responding to welfare and safeguarding needs alongside addressing criminogenic needs. This role also includes line management responsibilities.I have experience of conducting peer audits and gatekeeping/quality assuring assessments, and have been a peer mentor for students at both the Open University and Buckinghamshire New University.Outside of work I have an interest in horse riding, equine facilitated learning and psychotherapy, particularly its application with disadvantaged young people and adults including those in contact with the criminal justice system.I have just begun a Professional Doctorate in Crime, Policy and Security with London Metropolitan University, where I am currently exploring issues relating to global security.

Senior Youth Justice Officer
