Researcher for the Near-Infrared Spectroscopy for Pediatric Acute Scrotum and Testicular Torsion study under Dr. Linda Baker with the Children's Medical Center Department of Urology. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the utility of a transcutaneous near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) device that measures deep tissue oxygen saturation in the diagnosis of testicular torsion versus other causes of the acute scrotum. As a study researcher I am responsible for recruiting potential study participants from the Children's Medical Center of Dallas Emergency Department, determining eligibility for participation in the study, and providing informed consent to participants and their parents. I also perform a focused physical exam, use the NIRS device to obtain data, and enter the data electronically for evaluation by Dr. Baker. During my time in this study I also obtained training in the REDCap online research database system which I used to help create data management tools and to maintain the NIRS database.

Responsible for arranging inter-facility transfer of pediatric patients from non-specialty adult hospitals to Children's. I coordinate incoming transfer request calls, triage patients to relevant hospital departments, facilitate/monitor a verbal report between sending and receiving doctors, assign beds to patients, and dispatch ground and air transportation to bring patients into the hospital. Once I have dispatched a transport team I monitor active transports according to CAMTS accreditation standards. I am also responsible for arranging direct admissions from referring clinics and facilitating consult calls through the ACSS (Access to Children's Subspecialty Services) program. During my time at Children's I developed the training manual used for all new-hire Communication Specialists and served on two process improvement committees. I am also an active participant at departmental and safety committee meetings.
