Position followed IBM's acquisition of Lotus where Landry was SVP/CTO 1990-95. In 1995, IBM CEO Lou Gerstner appointed Landry to lead IBM's Internet Strategy Task Force, chartered to design and develop IBM's Internet strategy across the corporation. Following approval, Landry assumed a unique dual role -- identifying disruptive "Lead Dog" technologies via direct involvement in their businesses, while simultaneously, as an IBM insider, providing IBM top management and customers with a privileged view of activity at "the edge".

Led all software development and product management at Lotus, with emphasis on pioneering the success of Lotus Notes, the revolutionary collaboration and application development system largely responsible for Lotus' acquisition by IBM in 1995, then the largest transaction in the history of the software industry.

Joined company as SVP Applications after acquisition of Dist Mgt Systems. Quickly became CTO/SVP Development of this NYSE powerhouse who provided Fortune 1000 customers with integrated DBMS, Tools and Applications. Pioneered effort to change company focus from proprietary DBMS to SQL while concurrently beginning ADS/CS, the application development system focused on the emerging client/server environment. Company was acquired by Computer Associates in 1989.

Pioneered creation, development and launch of Application Expert, the first IBM mainframe-based backward-chaining inference engine and expert system development environment, built to provide AI-based reasoning to large scale enterprise application systems, initially DMS's Warehouse Management and Logistics System. DMS was acquired by Cullinet Software in 1987.

Headed all Product Management and Development in this unbelievably fast-growing startup including the design of Millennium, the first application development tool marketed by an applications software company and used exclusively to build M&D's integrated set of large-scale integrated financial, human resource and manufacturing applications. John joined the company as badge #4 in 1974 and and led all technology and product management as EVP Development/CTO for 11 years. In 1983, with then over 1800 employees across the globe M&D was acquired by Dun and Bradstreet.
