The Director of Education and Curriculum oversees the curricula and teaching processes. The director works with the teachers to analyze all data (formal and informal) to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of their students. Another key role of the Director of Education and Curriculum is coaching, mentoring and managing teachers and support staff. Training in the use of educational materials and techniques is also coordinated by the director. The responsibilities at this time also include the allocation of technology funds for the purpose of ensuring that appropriate resources and technology are available and are effectively utilized in support of the educational technology plan requirements.

The curriculum specialist assists and supports teachers in the design, development, and alignment of curricula and instructional methodologies. The specialist assesses educational programs, selects textbooks and instructional technology, trains teachers and develops curricula. The position also incorporates staff development training, administration and Board projects. The technology integration specialist monitors the allocation of technology funds for the purpose of ensuring that appropriate resources and technology are available and are effectively utilized in support of the educational technology plan requirements as well as recommending future proposals relating to technological advances. Researching information is required to manage assignments including reviewing relevant policies, current practices, staffing requirements, financial resources, etc. (e.g. trends in educational technology, media, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs, ensuring compliance with relevant requirements, securing general information for planning, taking appropriate actions, and/or responding to requests as they relate to educational technology.

The steering committee chair’s responsibilities include chairing all meetings of the steering committee; setting the general timetable for the school’s self-analysis and ensuring that tasks are completed in a timely manner; ordering any evaluation materials and documents needed for the self-analysis; overseeing the organization of all sub-committees, ensuring that all school personnel are involved in the process as appropriate, reflecting the sequential grade relationships as well as the interdisciplinary relationships within the school; attending a training workshop with FCIS representatives regarding the evaluation visit; coordinating the reproduction of the school’s report and published curriculum for visiting team members; and serving as liaison with the visiting team during the evaluation visit.

It is the responsibility of each team member to read the information sent prior to the visit including self-study, school web site, standards and “Guidelines for Evaluation team”. During the visit, in addition to classroom visits, there will be meetings scheduled with administrators, faculty, parents, students and governing board members. Attendance will be required only if that is your designated responsibility. Team members are responsible for checking standards compliance in their area and writing a report on their area. The final written report should be presented to the Chair of the Committee before you leave the school at the end of the evaluation visit. Team members are expected to attend the exit interview, unless there is an extenuating circumstance.Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Traditionally, the school being visited is not particularly interested in how you do things at your school. However, if somebody wants to know and they ask, feel free to enter into a collegial discussion. FCIS team members are not experts, but rather experienced colleagues with a fresh perspective.

Coaches check their Gmail regularly to keep current with course happenings. Coaches follow their participants' blogs and provide comments and feedback, also to check in with participants regularly, and provide support and encouragement as needed.

The music and movement teacher facilitated student appreciation of music through movement and rhythm. Songs, instruments, and games integrated themes from the various classes. Additional responsibilities included leading chapel songs and holiday performances.

The steering committee chair’s responsibilities began with initiating the process to become a candidate for accreditation. The process required the chair to facilitate all meetings accreditation preparation meetings; setting the general timetable for the preschool’s self-analysis; evaluating documents needed for the self-analysis; ensuring that all preschool personnel are involved in the process as appropriate, reflecting the sequential grade relationships as well as the interdisciplinary relationships within the preschool; and coordinating the reproduction of the preschool’s report.

Curriculum responsibilities included teaching the core content areas of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies in a self-contained class. Tenure included teaching in both self-contained and departmentalized structured classes. In the departmentalized design, primary role was as the lead math and social studies teacher.

The Team Leader assumed responsibility by assisting the school administration in leadership functions. The leader acted as a liaison among administration and teachers on the team. Additional responsibilities included providing curriculum leadership and support for team; working with school committees to continue to develop school curriculum and instruction; and assisting in the establishment of a positive school culture and learning environment.
