I served as the crew leader on emergency medical calls while on shift, which includes difficult and controversial situations. I served as a role model for other crew members, ensure ambulance trucks are clean inside and out, daily chores are done, and teach volunteers the required skills to be an efficient and competent EMT. I am assigned to a group of specific volunteers to serve as their point of contact and mentor, meet with them every month to discuss their progress in the hiring process to make sure they are reaching expectations.

I taught prospective Emergency Medical Technician students in Kinesiology 403 class on the skills and responsibilities required to become an efficient and competent EMT in a weekly lab. These include trauma and medical assessments, oxygen therapy, suction, CPR/AED, and stabilizing/moving techniques. Lesson plans are written up beforehand by all teaching assistants in the lab. I also assist in skills testing and students national practical exam.

I responded to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to patients according to Pennsylvania protocols. I maintained a clean environment on the ambulance for all patients and communicate effectively with coworkers to provide the utmost care. I worked closely with paramedics to assist in advanced life support treatment. I transported patients to the closest medical facility and document medical care given to patients. Through my experience, I learned the importance of listening thoroughly to the patient in order to meet their expectations and medical needs.

As logistics officer for PSU EMS, I was in charge of inventory of supplies needed for emergency medical technicians. This included various locations such as the Student Health Center, the Bryce Jordan Center, the Pegula Ice Arena, and Beaver Stadium. I restocked and replaced supplies and equipment needed for BLS assessments. I was in charge of ensuring that routine maintenance of ambulances was undergone as scheduled. I maintained a clean and easily accessible stock room for those employed at PSU EMS.

Allentown, Pennsylvania Area

I observed both inpatient and outpatient care under Physician Assistants at various locations within the network in various specialities such as neurology, orthopedics, surgery, oncology, GI, ENT, pulmonary, trauma, and pediatrics. I observed a mitral valve replacement and varicose vein removal surgeries. Additionally, I observed follow up visits and new patient evaluations that allowed me to have a further understanding of patient care. I observed hospital rotations including those in the ICU.

East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

I maintained accurate records of employee hours for payroll. I oversaw consumer issues and questions that arose. I managed lifeguards on duty and task delegation, including supervising the safety and rescue of those in the pool area. I became trained in CPR/AED first aid and water rescue in order to effectively rescue swimmers in distress while minimizing further injury. I enforced rules to avoid injury, maintained efficient observation of the pool area, carried out rescues and other emergency actions, checked pool's chlorine and pH level, and communicated with community members.
