I had my second placement at PPIS Family Service Centre West, where I was exposed to the work of the FSC and deepened my knowledge of the profession. I got the opportunity to experience conducting intake assessments, managing cases and attending various interagency events. These opportunities had helped to widen my exposure and expanded my worldview. I remember saying that I wanted to burst my own bubble as I step into social work, and I feel that with every experience, I had the privilege to gain a wider perspective of the world and reflect on many things as an individual, and my role as an aspiring social worker. I enjoyed the many thought-provoking conversations with my colleagues and supervisor, and I gained a deeper appreciation of the work and sector.

I had my first social work placement at Fei Yue, Youth Division under New Media. I had a fruitful and meaningful time despite working from home most of the time due to the pandemic. My greatest takeaway from this placement was gaining a deeper understanding of the role of a social worker and how social workers utilise their skills and knowledge to deliver quality service to clients. I was able to see how theories come alive, and how they are utilised in practice, which made learning so much more interesting and fun. The internship had helped to further develop my skills, knowledge as well as passion for the community.

I had my internship with the Youth and Leadership Department. During the time I spent there, I was exposed to managing youth volunteers and mentoring youths aged 13-14 years old. I was involved in the youth volunteers' monthly general meetings, and assisted in their community involvement programmes. I ran 2 workshops for the youth volunteers, and had the opportunity to participate in many of their projects, working with diverse population groups like children, migrant workers and the elderly. I was also on board their mentoring programme as a mentor and went to 3 different secondary schools for the programme. Through the internship, I was challenged to think out of the box and exposed to the operations of a non-profit organisation. During the internship, my course of studies was helpful in researching on youth volunteer's motivation, and a workshop was conducted as a follow up of my research. Group dynamics and counselling knowledge and skills were essential in managing relationships with the youths and mentees.
