Leah Chevalier's journey into the realm of mind-body connection is a testament to her unwavering dedication. Starting as a professional modern dance performer and teacher, her training at the esteemed Alvin Ailey Dance Center and the Martha Graham Dance Center, and her subsequent career as a company and project dancer, touring nationally and internationally, all reflect her deep passion for her craft. Her education, deeply rooted in dance, anatomy, kinesiology, and arts management, culminated in a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in Dance from Rutgers University. She has had the privilege of performing for dancers from both the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham companies and the Gina Gibney Dance Company. As a dancer for Gina Gibney, I reviewed a self-created work in the New York Times and the Village Voice.Leah's journey in yoga and meditation is a testament to her deep commitment and continuous learning. She studied yoga with Dharma Mittra and Jivamukti in New York City and Ashtanga yoga on the West Coast, where she earned her Ashtanga yoga certification in 2002. In 2013, she dedicated 15 months to a meditation and yoga retreat based on Paramahansa Yogananda's teachings, further deepening her meditative and yogic practices. She holds 200-hour- E-RYT and 500-hour yoga certifications from Yoga Alliance. Her dedication to meditation led her to receive refuge with her root teacher, Yangsi Rinpoche, in the Tibetan Buddhist Mahayana tradition of Maitripa in Portland, Oregon. She also received certification from Living Yoga in Portland in 2010 to share the practice with underserved communities. Her commitment to these practices is ongoing as she continues to learn and study yoga. She is currently at the beginning of her journey to attain a Master of Arts in Buddhist Spiritual Care. Leah's teaching experience spans a wide range, from preschoolers to active adults in various settings. She has taught in afterschool programs at the University of Kentucky, the School for Creative Performing community centers, and resorts. Leah first studied Pilates in New York City as a support to her training in classical modern dance training. Since then, she has studied Peak Pilates, Power Pilates, Pilates Movement, and Gramercy Pilates. After many years of Pilates practice, she became certified on a scholarship from The Movement Salon in NYC, where she received her 500-hour complete apparatus and mat certification. She is also an ACE-CPT and an ACE-group exercise certified as a movement specialist.
