I am a passionate and motivated individual with interests in agricultural and local business sustainability, non-profit work, event planning, the hospitality industry, and animal welfare. I currently enjoy working in one of Charleston's great restaurants and spend my free time volunteering at Jeremiah Goat and Dairy Farm, and the Charleston Animal Society. I want to take my experience in customer service, and my knowledge of the restaurant industry as well as my farm experience and use it to help create a more sustainable food system in our community and our country.I enjoy working in collaborative environments, especially when our goal is for greater good. I prefer working with a variety of people and can facilitate bringing teams together to achieve a common goal. I find it easy and enjoyable to connect with others and am able to make long lasting relationships. From my previous work experience I have mastered multi-tasking in fast paced and stressful situations while maintaining a high level of customer service. I am open to any job I can do where I feel like my work makes a positive impact and my energy and passion can be focused on improving the world and/or community around us.Please feel free to email me at leahhighfield@gmail.com

ServerMonza Restaurant May 2014 - PresentCharleston, South Carolina AreaMonza is an amazing local restaurant that has been supporting the local farms for the 9 years it has been running. The amazing chefs Leila Schardt and Italo Marino have taught me so much about what it means for a chef to care about and utilize local ingredients in a meaningful way. The whole staff went out to Keegan-Filon Farm to see where they source whole pigs that they butcher in the restaurant. They have come out to work on Jeremiah Goat and Dairy where I work once and week and continued their knowledge as well as showing me how connecting farms and chefs is incredible experience for them as well as the food they create for the community to eat.

Eat Local Month Event CoordinatorLowcountry Local First Jan 2014 - Apr 2014Charleston, South Carolina AreaAs a contracted in event coordinator I managed multiple aspects of making this 400 person event come together. I managed the connecting and coordinating of local chefs with local farmers that they got paired with to create dishes highlighting local ingredients. Through this I gained communication skills and learned how to bring together people for a successful event. I managed volunteer signup's, training, and assignments. I helped coordinate rental supplies being ordered, delivered and set up. During the event I was working closely with chefs and farmers to make sure everything went smoothly for them and both participants and guests had a seamless and highly enjoyable experience. -
