In our first month we had 25 groups successfully complete the program.• Head Beekeeper: manage a honeybee apiary of up to 30 beehives, coordinate and train volunteer beekeepers and facilitate an annual honey harvest.• Outdoor Adventure Camp and Girls’ Outdoor Challenge Camp Director: create and lead a 7 ½ week summer camp for 7th-9th graders that includes 4-night campouts, white water kayaking, zip lining, rock climbing, caving, surfing and overnight canoe trips, and a 1 week girls adventure camp for 4th-6th graders that includes camping, archery, rock climbing and canoeing.• Develop curriculum guide on ravine education; run teacher workshops on guide.• Teach school and after-school programs, scout groups and early childhood programs.• Provide personable and professional customer service daily to co-workers and members of the public.• Coordinate Nature Center marketing efforts by creating content for five annual brochures, working with Communications Department staff on program advertisements and promotions, writing quarterly newsletters, and directing part-time staff in social media and website marketing.• Speak at 2-5 local and regional Environmental Education conferences, events and festivals annually.• Create and manage ten program area budgets.• Serve on the Park District’s Green Committee to educate staff and the public on environmentally-friendly practices.• Maintain certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Flatwater Canoe Instruction, Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR. Anna Beal Interns learn basic land stewardship and ecological management by working with a variety of conservation professionals on several Conservancy owned or managed preserves. As an ABI I learned various management techniques and skills, such as chainsaw use and management, prescribed burns, native seed collecting and invasive species control.
