I investigated a unique double zone of inhibition growth phenomena seen in pathogenic, catalase-positive Staphylococcus species when grown in varying concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. I grew bacterial in various growing mediums, measured catalase levels using xylenol orange reagent, and recorded the growth patterns. I created a poster to present at the Ohio Academy of Science Annual Conference.
Teaching Assistant
I provided one-on-one tutoring sessions in Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology as well as organized group study sessions. Additionally, I worked as a teaching assistant in the Anatomy and Physiology lab. I reinforced classroom learning with additional discussion and specially prepared problems. Helping students learn difficult concepts is personally rewarding, and I appreciate the inseparable nature of team-driven research and training.
Summer Research Student
The project focused on characterizing the mechanisms of MAS1-86, a compound showing great efficacy against artemisinin-resistant malaria parasites. MAS1-86's impact on the ClpC/P protein degradation complex and various metabolic pathways was assessed. I performed MAS1-86 growth inhibition assays against parasites and assessed their viability using flow cytometry. I presented my research at the research symposium, and I will be a second author on the paper, which is in the process of being published

The effect neonicotinoids, a family of insecticides used in agriculture, has on the human immune response was investigated by measuring cell proliferation and lymphocytic nitric oxide production.I isolated lymphocytes from blood samples of locals from agricultural communities and cultured the lymphocytes. Lymphocytes were exposed to neonicotinoids and nitric oxide levels and cell proliferation were measured by using the Muse Cell Analyzer.
