Professional Lead Occupational Therapist, Acute Adult Mental Health Services
Manager Of Student Counselling And Mental Health Service
Darzi Fellow
Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, Low And Medium Secure Forensic Services
Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist for Medium and Low Secure Men's Service. Responsible for a team of Occupational Therapists, Activity Coordinators and Education team who provide clinical interventions and vocational rehabilitation for 11 wards, including medium and high dependency, acute admissions, rehabilitation and pre-discharge services.
Senior Occupational Therapist
As Senior Occupational Therapist, I am responsible for setting up the structure of the new unit with the focus on recovery and social integration. I developed and continue to provide a full activity planner, balancing social, leisure, educational and vocational development sessions in addition to improving skills needed for independent living. In doing this I have had to work within the budget allocated for the unit, and have had to work creatively and efficiently in order to achieve this. I have forged links with community organisations, providing educational, vocational, leisure and social opportunities for service-users. The unit is wholly self-catering in order to promote skill development and a sense of responsibility. I am responsible, in collaboration with the service-users, in planning and executing this aspect of the unit, with the support of nursing assistants, including managing the budget allocated for these provisions. I provide specific Occupational Therapy assessments of functional skills, highlighting areas in need of further rehabilitation and development. I work closely with the service-user to set recovery orientated goals around their personal interests and aspirations, promoting independence and recovery in a meaningful way. I also input into decision making with the MDT and provide recommendation for care coordinators around appropriate timescales for discharge and the degree and nature of the step-down service needed to support further recovery.
Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist
Working across the hospital in a variety of different services, from medium to low secure wards, with patients with enduring mental health problems and in many cases additional complications such as substance misuse and a history of offending behaviour. I was responsible for assessment of Occupational Therapy needs, working collaboratively with patients to identify skills deficits and areas in need of development and rehabilitation in order to further their recovery, promote independence and plan for successful discharge into the community. I facilitated skills-based groups in addition to supporting the psychology team with psycho-educational and offending behaviour groups. I was also responsible in planning and supporting staff in providing a structured program of meaningful activities conducive to rehabilitation and recovery.Within the Occupational Therapy department I was a key member in the introduction of the use of the Model of Human Occupation which changed our way of working and developed our recording of information in relation to report writing and presentation of rehabilitation plans. I was responsible for providing clinical and line-management supervision for Activity Support Workers, who provide the day-to-day structure of ward-based activities, as well as junior members of the Occupational Therapy team working within other services.
