An interviewer once asked me, if there’s only one word to describe me, what would it be? In a heartbeat I mustered “I’m a people person” and that's how the meeting ended. In my mind, I was like, Is this the best I can come up with? Wanted to add that I’m a great collaborator, problem solver and a Leader that respects people and value their individual differences.The other question that always gets me is “Tell me something about yourself? It overwhelms me as I don’t know which part of my story I want to share. Should I say how big and close knit my family is? I’m 8th child in the family of 10. How devastating 2017-2018 was when we had 3 deaths in the family. My loving father Rizalino, caring brothers, Albert & Theodore passed away 5 months apart from each other within a span of 10 months. AND How Sheryl Sandberg’s book Option B helped me build more resilience to overcome grief and lean in my career as means to cope with the loss? Mentioned it because it helps and to quote Karen Abbate, “It's powerful to connect with people over the things that make us human, vulnerable, and imperfect.”Few more things I would like to share: I've been working for Contract Manufacturing/EMS industry for about 18 years and lost count on how many products I helped successfully kicked-off and launched that are now in the market. I'm a K-Drama junkie and even though I don’t speak Korean, I do believe that LOVE is a universal language and that…oh well, I guess subtitle helps. When I was younger, wanted to either be a Lawyer, an Engineer, a Teacher, a Writer or work for Marketing and Advertising company…BUT I became a Program Manager and I guess, it’s not too shabby, as I get to practice a little bit of each in daily PM activities. Simply put, my job is to help customers meet their target timeline in the most cost effective means and sometimes in the most inconceivable conditions like, meeting someone across the globe to get parts, putting myself in front of fedex truck so driver would wait for the units that are behind the scheduled pick-up time, negotiating with Controller to sign manual packing slips when POs are delayed, bargaining with Ops Manager not to issue STOP line while assisting Engineers to rush the ECOs. Yes, I go out of my way to help as a resource because that’s what great PMs do and DO It with a smile. TRUE. I make it all happen because my team helps make impossible things possible, and the KEY is COMMUNICATION and CLARITY of the expectations from each stakeholder. the glue that piece this all together?? is the PM..do I need to say more???
