Product Development Scientist and Color Guru. My job is to color thermoset materials while developing epoxy-based adhesive formulations. I oversee all color activities in our cosmetic adhesives platform for electronics from bench-scale to manufacturing, including management of color targets, color matches, color approvals, digitalization, and setups for colorants and color control at manufacturing sites. In a year's time, our team realized products into manufacturing enabling >2MEur/yr sales as a start, with projected growth for >5 MEur/yr.

Development of formulations based on a large variety of thermosets and thermoplastic resins, with especial focus on VBO operations, fast cure, and mitigation of voids.

Development and manufacturing of colored products within SSP's product portfolio (e.g. polysulfones, polyetheretherketone, polyphenylenes, polycarbonates, polyamideimides, and specialty polyesters and polyamides). The job entailed:- Evaluation of colorants with high thermal and chemical stability, as well as additives for dispersion, fire resistance, and impact modification.- Development of colored products from benchscale to industrial manufacturing in resins such as PEEK, PEDEK, PPSU, PESU, PSU, HPA, to name a few.- Management of QA/QC of colored products, including development and application of colorimetry methods for color control and automation of data acquisition at the manufacturing sites.- Development of training programs in various aspects of colorimetry, spanning from communication of color, fundamental and advanced colorimetry, and management of color in plastics.

Synthesis and study of electroactive polymers for applications as materials for charge storage and photovoltaics. The job entails:- Design and synthesis of suitable materials for electrodeposition- Electrochemical and Photophysical Characterization- Evaluation in DevicesStudy of Direct Heteroarylation methods for the synthesis of pi-conjugated polymers for photovoltaics

Study of electropolymerizable conjugated materials for applications as supercapacitors and batteries. The job entails:- Preparation of suitable conjugated monomers- Characterization via voltammetry and spectroscopic methods- Preparation and testing of devices.

Studied conjugated materials for applications such as OLEDs and OTFTs. The gained expertise includes the following:- Synthetic methods for the preparation of conjugated materials using multi-step protocols. Includes purification via conventional methods (recrystallization, distillation, column chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography).- Characterization of the materials to verify identity and purity. This includes mass spectrometry (GCMS, DIP-MS, MALDI-TOF), Infrared spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H, 13C, DEPT, APT, and Temperature Dependence).- Characterization of optical properties. The techniques involved are: UV-Vis spectroscopy, Emission spectroscopy (Steady state and time resolved fluorescence and phosphorescence), Transient absorption spectrocopy (fs and ns time resolved methods).- Theoretical computations. Experience with Gaussian and MOLCAS packages. Computations involved geometry optimizations, frequency calculations, vertical transitions and potential energy surface characterizations using methods such as Hartree-Fock, post-HF, MCSCF and DFT.- Writing of scientific articles, presentations, and posters for dissemination of especialized informaton among scientific community.
