The VSO is Western Canada's largest arts organization, and one of a handful of orchestras in the world with its own music school. The VSO presents over 150 concerts annually to over 270,000 people, and is led by Music Director, Otto Tausk. The orchestra presents passionate, high-quality performances of classical, popular and culturally diverse music, creating meaningful engagement with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.I was part of a dynamic senior leadership team, guiding the orchestra through transformative change while achieving annual goals and helping to guide the organization's future. My role was to secure major gifts and oversee all fundraising initiatives for the VSO, the VSO School of Music and the Vancouver Symphony Foundation.- Created strategies and managed all aspects of the contributed revenue goals for the VSO, the VSO School of Music (VSOSoM) and the Vancouver Symphony Foundation (VSF). - Led a team of 9 people successfully raising $3.5+ million annually in operating funds, from Individuals, Corporations, Institutions, Special Events, Planned Giving and Special Projects.- Set, managed and reconciled annual revenue and expense budgets, working collaboratively with the CFO. - Successfully procured six figure gifts to support the performance, education, community engagement, touring and endowment goals of the VSO, the VSOSoM, and the VSF.- Restructured the Development Department to maximize the team’s talents and productivity, leading to improved fundraising results year over year.- Implemented a Legacy Giving program for the VSO, the VSOSoM and the VSF. Future legacy commitments reached $8 million in 5 years.- Leadership role in several Strategic Planning cycles, helping the shape the future of the VSO.- Hired staff and recruited committee volunteers.- Participated in and presented at Board meetings governing the VSO, the VSO School of Music, and the VSF.

- Leadership role in creating strategies and managing all aspects of the VSO’s annual giving campaigns to sustain and ensure growth in funding from individuals in the community.- Grew Major Gift program to reflect a 181% increase in annual giving over 10 years.- Instituted an annual Matching Gift program within the Friends of the Vancouver Symphony campaign that saw a record number of donations during the economic downturn in 2008.- 2010 saw annual gifts from individuals reach the $1 million mark for the first time in the VSO’s history.

- Revitalized the Patrons’ Circle program, the VSO’s major donor program, and re-established a dedicated group of volunteers to assist with solicitations.- Established a Monthly Giving Circle and converted 5% of renewing donors to the program.- Researched and wrote successful government grants and lobbied for increased supports of the arts.- Managed and hired staff, and provided leadership and support to the department.

- Revitalized the VSO’s transactional donation campaigns increasing annual revenue by 26% in the first year while keeping expenses below budget. This was the first increase in the campaign in 4 years. - Established new and engaging stewardship programs for our Friends donors.- Over 3 seasons, the average Friends donation grew from $87 to $137 annually through improved communication, donor relations and initiatiting a telefunding campaign.- Collaborated with Director of Development on the Patrons’ Circle program, renewing annual gifts of $1,500 to $25,000 as well as attending major donor prospect events.- Researched and wrote successful grant proposal to corporate and family foundations.

Established an Education Department within the VSO making education a core aspect of our business, and integral to the VSO’s annual activities. This department grew to become a multi-person team and with the inspiration of Music Director, Bramwell Tovey, led to the creation of the VSO School of Music. Now a not-for-profit entity in its own right.- Successfully instituted a new approach to presenting symphonic music to Elementary School children and increased concert attendance 30% in first year.- Designed and wrote curriculum-based study guides for teachers who weree not music specialists.- Established strong relationships with music educators and associations throughout the province.- Revitalized the open rehearsal program for secondary school students. Increased annual attendance by almost 40% in the first year.- Built a student ticket program, promoting $10 tickets to students in secondary and post-secondary institutions. Youth attendance at the VSO noticeably increased.

- Spearheaded all aspects of Special Event management—successfully and consistently meeting or exceeding targets. Events included: Annual Symphony Ball, Auctions, Gala Concert Events, Designer Showhouses, Virtuoso Dinners, Golf Tournaments, Fashion Shows and Lotteries.- Managed all aspects of the Patrons’ Circle campaign (Gifts of $1,500 and up) from solicitations to liaising with the volunteer committee and organizing stewardship programs.- Hired and managed support staff and contract workers.

Founded in 1997, Orchestras Canada supports, connects, and challenges Canadian orchestras, helping orchestras accomplish together what they cannot do alone. It primarily plays a role in providing service, education and advocacy for small medium and large orchestras across Canada.I served as Secretary on the Board and on multiple committees including Governance, Finance, and Development.

Royal City Musical Theatre is a volunteer-led organization that brings theatre professionals, emerging talent, and volunteers together in an inspiring environment to produce exceptional musical theatre that engages our community. Each year we welcome more than 10,000 audience members to New Westminster B.C.I served in roles of Treasurer and Secretary.

The Red Door Housing Society is a non-profit housing society that has provided affordable rental housing in Metro Vancouver since 1985. Housing provided is either subsidized and below-market rent to families, older seniors, singles, and people with mobility issues with low to moderate incomes.I served in the role of member and also Secretary.
