Co-Founder & Director
Indigo Magazine For Girls
Australia
Co-founder and Director of Indigo Magazine for Girls. This was my first venture into publishing and resulted in the publication of an internationally distributed print magazine designed to help improve the self-esteem of 10 – 14 year old girls. A strict no-airbrushing policy and a commitment to having 'real' girls represented on the pages of this magazine and on the cover resulted in extensive media coverage and international support from parents, schools, charity organisations like The Butterfly Foundation and Girl Guides Australia, as well as of course the girls themselves. + As owner, I was responsible for all aspects of the business including budgets, financial planning, branding, web design, marketing and distribution. + Extensive research into the issues that impact young women, including body image, influence of media, peer pressure, eating disorders and depression.+ Marketing and distribution manager – successful in having Indigo available in more than 1,200 schools Australia wide as well as individual subscriptions around the world.+ Public relations, writing of media releases and all promotional material.+ Public speaking - I have spoken at conferences and events for audiences from 10 to 400 people including teachers, health professionals and students.+ Radio and television interviews.I stepped away from my several years into the project. Due to a number of factors, including the challenges of the publishing industry and the increased competition of online content, the magazine is no longer being published.
