Through my 3rd Year college work placement I worked in a School Completion Programme. I worked as part of a team with four other practitioners, I was the only person from a Social Care background so I was able to bring a new perspective too the programme. I was spread out between 5 schools working with different primary and secondary school students in each school covering topics from social skills to communication skills. I was also involved in the after school Homework-Club's in all the schools which involved helping students and encouraging the students to come and do their homework and use us to their advantage if they felt they were struggling in any particular area.

As part of my college work placement, I worked in Tipperary Regional Youth Service for 4 months. My main responsibility was co-facilitating groups with my manager. I also came up with my own intervention for a target group, which I had to identify and then plan an activity based on their needs. I decided to do cooking skills with a group of teenage girls to teach them the importance of healthy food. Some of these girls often have to provide dinner for their younger siblings so it was helping them to learn new skills while producing healthy, simple dishes.
