About Leanne R. Smith

Every problem has a solution, every disagreement an area of consensus, and every outcome a cause. As a company auditor and chartered accountant bringing my depth of knowledge to board and committee roles, I search for reasons, find answers, and secure strategic alignment. Leveraging my experience across not-for-profits, government agencies, manufacturing companies and membership organisations, as well as my passion for making a difference, I drive businesses toward tangible outcomes. Building relationships founded on trust I use my expertise in regulations and corporate governance to act as others’ guardrails. I know what questions to ask and, always friendly and approachable, become a support who steers leaders through significant strategic decisions.I believe in pre-empting issues rather than allowing them to grow, and I keep this value front-of-mind when providing oversight and explaining best-practice in-context. My strong audit and financial reporting experience enable me to communicate the technical in a way that’s relatable for everyone, and easy to understand. As someone who enjoys uplifting others and sharing my knowledge, I provide options that empower leaders to make informed decisions. I don’t avoid difficult conversations. Instead, I establish robust boundaries and get clear on what matters, paving the way for improved efficiencies and collaboration.Naturally conscientious, I’ve always enjoyed structure and organisation – when I was young, I thought I might be a librarian. Instead, after a solid grounding at Deloitte, I became a company accountant in commercial organisations - and it’s this hands-on experience that makes me an even better auditor, one capable of guiding and informing businesses as a true partner or consultant.I take pride in my work and strive to do the right thing by businesses, whether I am building, managing and succession planning, or refining my skillset by graduating 🎓 from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I understand how to navigate financial and risk management while maintaining a commitment to vision, and I thrive when shaping strategy toward an end goal.Although practical and pragmatic in the office, I enjoy my downtime. I love taking walks by the water and have recently discovered yoga and meditation. If you believe in giving back and knowledge-sharing like me, let’s connect.📧 leannersmith@bigpond.com

  • Girl Guides Australia
Independent Member Of Finance & Risk Committee
Girl Guides Australia 2019 - Present
Girl Guides Australia is the peak body for Guiding in Australia supporting member organisations across the country. As an independent Finance and Risk Committee member, I offer an informed external perspective on accounting practices, management accounting, and statutory and management reporting. I also play a role in identifying improvements and am proactive in recommending decisions and actions that contribute to strong governance frameworks.
  • Intentus Chartered Accountants
    Director
Intentus Chartered Accountants Jul 2013 - Present
    Bathurst
I co-founded Intentus, an audit-only chartered accounting firm, in 2013. The business name means thorough, attentive and earnest in Latin, and that was what we stood for. As a partner, I built strong and trusted relationships with clients, for whom I acted as an impartial strategic advisor, helping them see their business from an external perspective. I offered options to clients, empowering them to make informed decisions that aligned with their long-term strategy. I engaged in complex conversations to ensure issues were dealt with before they escalated.Always pragmatic in my approach, in addition to my client-related responsibilities, I managed IT, statutory reporting, administration, and human resources – with a focus on skills uplift and succession planning. It’s important to me to upskill my clients and share knowledge with staff and peers, so I maintained a long-standing relationship with the University Workplace Learning program, offering accounting students hands-on experience.
  • Chartered Accountants Australia And New Zealand
Chair Caanz’S Nsw Western Region Committee
Chartered Accountants Australia And New Zealand May 2013 - Dec 2018
As Chair (Nov 2015 - Dec 2018), I rallied the 𝗡𝗦𝗪 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 to focus on ensuring members were engaged and that the pathway to participation was made easier and accessible for all. I identified and resolved access issues caused by remote or regional location challenges, helping secure speakers who would travel to various towns for multiple events instead of the age-old expectation that members would travel 3-4 hours for a single event. I enjoyed working with the Committee in giving back and sharing with members the knowledge I’ve developed over the years, as well as communicating the many career opportunities available, and advocating on behalf of the association. I also oversaw the awarding of the annual scholarship – a highly visible offering which promoted the organisation and secured new members.
