APM Communities is a global health and workplace services provider. I currently work for the Community Capacity Building team, working on community development projects that aim to create opportunities for people with disabilities to be part of their communities. I am currently working with the Empower Real Action Group working with people of all abilities to create the inaugural Empower Real Storytelling Festival. Group members fill valued roles, and are building capacity in event planning, marketing, filmmaking and accessibility, while realising their unique skills and abilities, and what they have to offer.

As Team Leader, National Enquiries Team I worked alongside people living with disability to increase their independence and their social and economic participation. In this role I• Supported participants to navigate and build knowledge of the community mainstream services that may assist them, as well as the NDIS• Provided answers to complex questions about the NDIS from participants, their families and carers about the scheme, and how to connect with providers• Collected and recorded accurate information to support NDIA decision making and the development of an NDIS plan, and• Delivered community engagement, education and capacity building activities to support community access and inclusion.

Annecto Inc is an aged care and disability support service provider for people with disabilities, older people, families and carers. I commenced at Annecto as a Community Development Officer in 2012. I developed programs for groups of adults with disabilities, with clear goals and outcomes. These programs included outdoor education and life skills. I supervised and coordinated staff, and created, recorded and evaluated programs and plans. In 2014 I was seconded to the role of Senior Support Worker – In Home Services. In this residential role, I worked with people with more complex 1:1 support needs, providing developmentally appropriate activities. I undertook meal planning and preparation, cleaning and personal care. I also provided on-the-job training for new staff, having them ‘shadow’ me, and later, supervising them. This role demonstrates my ability to create opportunities for supported individuals to engage in their communities in more meaningful ways. In 2018 I was awarded Annecto Inc’s Craig Goesch Scholarship (nominated by my peers) for my achievements in advocating for people with acquired brain injury, their carers and families.

Deniliquin, New South Wales, Australia

Kurrajong is a NDIS provider in the Riverina Murray region of NSW, servicing people with disability to live a life of their choice. I was a Support Worker providing in home respite and residential supports, to young people and adults with disabilities. I acted as the manager of the School Leavers Employment Program for a 6-week period. During this time, I took 8 young people to Sydney to develop their independent living skills, including using public transport.

Windgap Foundation provides a wide range of programs and services focussed on providing care, support and empowerment for adults with disability. I was a Community Support Worker within their Day Program, working with adults with very complex behaviour support plans. I participated in organisational planning, staff mentoring and developed, implemented and evaluated individual plans. While at Windgap I was selected to be a ‘Person-Centered Champion’ and I completed a professional development program written by The Centre for Disability Studies at Sydney University.
