I am part of the softgoods certification team on the LIFE (Large Integrated Flexible Environment) habitat which will be used on the Orbital Reef commercial space station. Primary role responsibility is to ensure the habitat design and test campaign meet the NASA guidelines for crewed softgoods structures. This work involves writing requirements, planning validation and verification activities, managing a certification plan, conducting tests at NASA facilities, and working closely with NASA SMEs to review data. I also work closely with our design engineers and softgoods vendors to ensure our design is manufacturable and processes are repeatable.

Was responsible for the entire tent and furniture product lines. This role entailed bringing my hardgoods and softgoods backgrounds together to design tent and furniture architecture. The frames and trims require engineering and CAD work, while the furniture skins and tent bodies required cut and sew design work. I leveraged a variety of prototyping methods including 3D printing, scale models, and sewing concepts in house. In addition to full design cycle work I assisted with category management responsibilities such as line planning, product requirements, testing, and competitor analysis.

Worked on contract engineering projects for a small design firm. I specialized in projects involving both hardgoods and softgoods components. Engineering design and validation was rapid paced to meet client timelines and deliverables included CAD models, drawings for manufacturing, and fully functional rapid prototypes. We used in house 3D printers, machining equipment, and custom components to build functional prototypes that included backpacks, consumer electronics, and sporting goods.

Was part of a small cross functional design team for advanced alpine hardgoods and softgoods. My primary role included design ideation, market research, field testing, prototyping, design validation through testing and computation, design for manufacturability, and supporting all stages of production. We used innovative design to hit strict weight goals while also passing rigorous testing requirements for personal protective equipment. I also accepted an opportunity to temporarily relocate to the French office as a softgoods developer. This role is described below.

Relocated to France to support the softgoods team as the sole developer for the entire pack line. Responsibilities included managing project timelines, tech packs, lab dips, sample development, BOM analysis and negotiation, trim engineering, and compiling product information for sales and marketing. Role required extensive travel overseas to collaborate with vendors and the ability to coordinate with a global team across multiple times zones. Also assisted with product briefs, processing user feedback, and quality conformance.

Worked as a design engineer two years before I accepted an opportunity to temporarily relocate to the French office as a softgoods developer. In addition to learning about softgoods products, I had the opportunity to utilize my engineering background to create a testing program and improve technical documentation. After a year in France I returned to my primary role which is described at the top.

Conducted detailed structural mapping and site surveys on cell tower structures throughout the entire country. As part of the high priority response team we traveled extensively to complete urgent projects. Work required rapid problem solving and flexibility due to the variety of site requirements, tight timelines for project completion, and frequently project relocation. . Work also included training and use of work at heights PPE, which included equipment comprised of both softgoods and hardgoods components.

Responsible for engineering about half of one of the largest product categories: headlamps and lanterns. Timely completion of the design was critical to the rapid refresh rate of these products. These products also had strict margin requirements and involved close integration with industrial designers and overseas manufacturing vendors.

Employed as an intern supporting the design of climbing hardgoods through construction of prototypes, testing, and assisting with production line development. . This work focused on integration between softgoods and hardware components. Offered a permanent salaried position on the lighting team after six months.

As part of the Dream Chaser space craft mechanical systems team I worked on the interface between the space plane and the launch vehicle. Work was focused on the mechanical mechanisms that separated the space plane from the launch vehicle and disengaged the electrical connections.

Supported the engineering team by modeling preliminary parts for review, creation of engineering drawings, and revision control of existing drawings. Specifically, I model components and assemblies in each product line in SolidWorks for purposes of manufacturing, tooling, and simulation testing. Additionally, I prepared drawings of finished goods for the review and use of engineering, purchasing, sales and manufacturing.

Performed systems engineering integration for a multi-generational special access program in aerospace for a DoD customer. I specifically supported concept of operations and design validation for the future generation. Additionally, I performed testing and data analysis on site Buckley AFB for the current generation. Top Secret with Poly obtained 08/2013 for this position.
