The 15th May 2009 was the day I realised my life had changed forever. It was the day after my baby died. I walked out of the Maternity unit a broken woman. There was no baby in my arms, no bundle of joy, just pain and devastation. As the days passed and my body healed from labouring our tiny 23 week baby, my arms started to ache. The longing intensified day after day after day. I thought I was going crazy, madness setting in, grief breaking me even more... until I found a community, one no one ever wants to be a member of, the bereaved mother community. In those dark, raw days, they held me, understood me and their arms ached too. 12 months later I founded Aching Arms. The pregnancy and baby loss charity. 15 years on I am an experienced charity Founder with a history of working in the mental health and well being care industry. On top of my 18 years as a secondary school teacher, Education Consultant and Teacher Educator, over the last 14 years I have grown a charity from a grassroots enterprise to a small national charity. I have skills in Learning and Development, Collaborative Problem Solving, Well Being at work and Team Management and enjoy public speaking. And my arms still ache for my baby.
